yogini

"Inward calm cannot be maintained unless physical strength is constantly and intelligently replenished." Buddha quote

It's no secret, I've been practicing yoga, and recently I've been practicing ALOT of yoga. I'll give you the cliffnotes on how this came to be. I had a friend who was teaching yoga at our gym. She encouraged me to attend one of her classes. I'd always wanted to, but it can be intimidating to go to a class where you have absolutely no clue what you're in for. lol. I decided to attend her Gentle yoga class on a Friday night (because I'm that cool as to where I really have nothing planned Friday nights. lol). Well, I absolutely fell in love with this class. It was dark, it was relaxed, and more than that, I felt absolutely amazing afterwards! I had to go every Friday. It was the perfect ending to the week.
Fast forward through the worst day of my life, the worst time of my life. Obviously, I did not attend yoga while grieving for my Dad. During this time, my friend moved to another state and another lady came in to teach the Gentle Yoga class. It took me a while, but I mustered up the courage to go, and she was absolutely lovely. The class was just as wonderful as I remembered, and soon I realized that the meditation part of yoga was really helping me to deal with my dad. My mom starting coming with me, and I think it's really helped her as well. We've become close with our instructor, and we've started taking another yoga class with her (just a regular beginning/moderate yoga class) and I've also added another yoga class at the gym to my already active gym schedule. And (if you can believe this) I'm looking at picking up another yoga class (Happy Yoga, where they play live music during Savasana).
A friend of mine asked (nicely) where the line draws from student to teacher. lol (because I'm so addicted). Here's the thing. Yoga is sooo much more than taking a class at the gym. It's more than just the physical practice that we know it to be. It is also mental practice. Quieting the mind, meditation, linking breath, looking inward. It's wonderful and personal and I really just love it. I would encourage everyone I know to try it out. The beauty of yoga is that it is YOUR practice. If you only want to challenge yourself to the physical, then that is absolutely fine. If you want to find the quiet inside you, then you can. If you want to master Sanskrit and Sutra, you can. It's is completely yours, you can go as big or small, as fast or slow, as deep or wide as you want to. Whatever you choose, you will find benefit in the smallest of yoga practice. It is wonderful! Try it... you'll like it! :-)

catching up

yes, i have been absent from le blog all week, but a swerr it's not my fault. it's the dumb-bunny computer i'm working with here. it decided not to work this week, and i had to wait like a patient little lady to get her up and running. finally, i am back on line, and i have a ton of work and a ton of blog reading to catch up on. eek! so, let me bust out this weeks 'Wee Bit Wednesday' and 'Fill In The Blank Friday' and them i'm out!
{one} what is your dream job?
No clue, probably has something to do with lots of money and traveling. lol.

{two} how many best friends do you have?
Several. They know who they are.

{three} what’s the longest road trip you’ve ever taken?
When we were kids we took a road trip up the CA coast through Oregon and ended up in Bend, OR for a family reunion. Good times.

{four} if you had to do one single thing every day for the next year, what would it be?
Yoga. Definitely.

{five} what’s one story your family always tells about you?
Hmm, not sure. Maybe the time that bird pooped on my head while I was blindfolded and swinging a bat at a pinata in my grandma's front yard. lol.

{six} how did your parents pick your name?
Not really sure, I think I was gonna be an Alexis. Can you imagine me... an Alexis... I think NOT! So glad I'm Jennifer, or Jen, or JJ (to my fam) but never ever EVER a Jenny... not unless you wanna Die!! lol

{seven} what’s the one thing that scares you more than anything?
The moments before you die. Yep, scary.

{eight} are you a good cook?
Sometimes. lol. I totally kick azz at a few recipes, but I really like to try new things (okay, so the red cabbage dish wasn't a winner, but at least we can all check it off the list. lol)

{nine} where do you see yourself in 20 years?
Oh geez, I'll be 50! I'd better be up in the gym still. And minimal botox, not yet in need of a facelift. lmao. Probably a grandma by then, and nearing retirement.

{ten} what’s your best childhood memory?
Houseboat vacations. The absolute best!

1.   One of my happiest moments ever was       giving birth to my daughter. It was an all day process, but one that I would relive over and over again. Same goes with my son's birth, but would have to give up the after birth (the part where I truly though I was going to die as they filled me with morphine) .

2.  Summer is wedding season and weddings are    always beautiful and always make me cry (happy tears) .

3.  This summer     has had its ups and downs, but overall it's been really great .

4.  My summer food of choice has been   berries, fruit, and anything grilled .

5.  My summer uniform has been     shorts, tanks, and chanklas (flip flops) .

6.  If I could spend the entire summer in one location I would choose      Hawaii. duh  .

7.  My summer anthem is       "California Girls" by Katy Perry .

fill in the blank friday

1.   I am a (morning, evening, middle of the day person)       mid morning kind of person. I'm not quite pleasant first thing in the morn, but once I've had my shower, a nice quiet drive into work, and a cup of coffee, then I'm a peach .

2.  My favorite Pandora stations are    Adele, Frank Sinatra/Michael Buble, NoDoubt/Paramore, and Calm Meditation  .

3.  3 of my "must-have" songs for a road trip playlist are     can we do albums instead? They would be Adele "19", No Doubt "The Singles", and Maroon 5 "Songs About Jane"  .

4.  My favorite pattern is   large print floral .

5.  My favorite perfume is     L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani .

6.  Rules are      more like guidelines, and meant to be tested from time to time  .

PLAY!!! Over at Lauren's!!

wee bit wednesday

{one} what’s the #1 most played song on your iPod (or whatever you use)?

{two} what’s your favorite type of exercise?
Tough question. Probably strength training, followed by yoga, followed by cycle.

{three} what’s your least favorite mode of transportation?
Airplane. I do NOT like to fly.

{four} if you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be?
Oh geez, NOT 30... this year has been rough. Tons of learning and growing, but so incredibly rough. I'd say in my twenties, upper twenties. 28,29... around there.

{five} when you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you use it to do?
lol, free time, like that exists in my life. I would say reading my Oxygen magazine or vegging out to some tv or a movie.

{six} what do you miss the most about being a kid?
The innocence in which we see all things. Nothing is bad or harmful, and everything is possible!

{seven} when was the last time you were nervous?
Yesterday. I always get a bit nervous when I try a new gym exercise. (Especially if it involves me holding myself up so that I don't fall on my face. lol.)

{eight} what was the first thing you bough with your own money when you were young?
I saved my money for months to buy my own stereo for my bedroom. My parents were so proud!

{nine} what is your favorite month of the year?
Tough one. I find something favorite in every month. But if I HAD to choose, it could be.... yeah, can't pick one. Sorry.

{ten} what are 3 songs from the soundtrack of your life?
You Are My Sunshine by my Daddy, And She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5, The Way You Look Tonight by Tony Bennet

In the past two weeks I have had terrifying dreams of snakes. They bite me, they chase me, they scare me. There are rattlesnakes, and cobras, and anacondas. I mean seriously, whats with all the snakes!!
